I can’t wait for Star Wars Battlefront II. It’s no secret that I loved the 2015 reboot–I won’t deny that it was a deeply flawed game, but my god was it a beautiful, engrossing, infinitely replayable deeply flawed game. But there was definitely a huge amount of room for improvement. And that’s where my optimism and excitement for Battlefront II lies. The series in the hands of DICE has the potential to be such an amazing multiplayer game, they just need to get everything right. Battlefront 2015 did feel somewhat rushed, which I assume was to ship alongside the Star Wars hype that came with The Force Awakens. But there’s no rush this time. No movie to meet, no hype wave to ride. Battlefront II can be the perfect Star Wars game. My main interest is how large-scale battles can feature asymmetric gameplay both within one team as well as between the teams, as well as the integration of all three eras of Star Wars canon. So I’m super pumped about this new trailer. Focusing on space combat, today’s Official Starfighter Assault Gameplay Trailer showcases a dogfighting mode that was sorely lacking in Battlefront 2015. There’s also a glimpse of Darth Maul, which is exciting, as he’s the second best thing about the prequels*. Watch the trailer below: If you’re up tomorrow morning at 2:30 AM AEST, be sure to tune in to the official EA Live Show Gamescom stream at EA.com, as 24 players will demo a live dogfight in the Fondor: Imperial Shipyard map. Star Wars Battlefront II will release on November 17, 2017, for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. * The best thing about the prequels is Jar Jar Binks.
