Runic were kind enough to send me a couple of Torchlight II beta keys, and all I have to say is: fun fun fun fun. Torchlight II is really not all that different to the first game – killing, looting, and wearing out the left mouse button and the 1 key. Click click click. Sure, there’s new items and classes, but the key difference here is Runic Games’ answer to the primary criticism of Torchlight – the addition of multiplayer. Hell yeah.
Torchlight’s cartoony style provides a nice release from the doom and gloom of Diablo III. Torchlight II sees release this winter, and is now available for $20 from Steam. I’ll do a full review soon (before official release), and I can promise you now that the score will be quite high.
